Re: The Sharqi Experiment
Fri, August 24, 2007 - 10:13 AMHere are the details about my workshop.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
~A
BellyCrafting the Dark Wave
“Fusing and drilling Gothic Industrial techniques, transitions & combinations for Tribal Fusion Bellydance.”
Drawing on her years of dancing at her favorite gothic / industrial and alternative clubs, Alicia will be blending the theatrical, dynamic, and often cathartic dance styles of the post punk new wave era with tribal fusion belly dance for an industrial strength journey through the shadows of its dramatic allure and calling, to the light and magic of its ethereal beauty and grace.
To be revealed:
Movement as emotion and emotion as movement via a strong technical base and an attitude rooted in the dark wave aesthetic.
Footwork and floor work as well as locking and popping in waves and transition will be highlighted via drills that create the clear cut tempo and directional changes that give the genre its other worldly grace and feel of movement.
Participants will be given individual techniques that readily and freely cycle into one another and be presented with drills that build and create the specific body awareness necessary to later sustain and enrich costuming and stage presence. To be in the moment and experience your performance as you offer it to an audience, you must be grounded in your technique so it alone carries everything else and you are free to emote and express. This workshop will secure that technique as well as discuss stage presence, intent and expression that are the source of Gothic Industrial Bellydance.
All levels are welcome. Knee pads are recommended. -

Love your Layers with Daniela:
Technique and Layering for all Cabaret and Tribal dancers. In this workshop Daniela will be taking out stylization and bringing you back to the roots of pure technique. This workshop will focus on making sure the foundations of your belly dance movements are executed properly. This class will consist of drilling elements and will also incorporate layering several movements on top of one another. Bellydance experience is recommended. This workshop is for all styles of Belly dancers. Be prepared to sweat and be challenged. This class is based on the teaching style of Suhaila Salimpour with my own Daniela twist.
Beginner 1 hour workshop with Roberta:
This is a workshop for the beginner who wants to learn about the art of bellydance. Learn some of the basic movements of belly dance with Roberta.
Tantalizing Tribal Fusion Technique and Combos with Daniela:
In this workshop the students will learn hot Tribal Fusion combos. We will be focusing on tribal technique, arm work, slow sultry movements and popping and locking! Tribal Fusion has recently gained much popularity in the belly dance community. Mostly predominant in California, this American made style of belly dance is very mysterious, creative, fun, and experimental. Learn how to stylize your movements into Tribal Fusion. Explore different genres of music and spark your imagination and creativity! What is tribal style? Why are you drawn to it? And how can you become a Tribal Fusion dancer?
Tribal Style with Alina:
“American Tribal Style (ATS)” belly dance is well known for its fascinating and dynamic technique, preformed as group improvisation. Made popular by Carolena Nericcio of Fat Chance Bellydance, ATS quickly evolved and others soon added their own splendor to the dance.
Alina has picked her top three “Tribal Style” master influences and has put them together in this collection of improvisational styles in combos intensified with her own special “twists”. Join us for a 2 hour workshop covering the fundamentals of improvisational cueing, transitions and formations. Learn to belly dance without choreography, increase your range of motion with Awesome Killer Hips and improve your dance technique with indispensable tips on Tribal Dance Posture and the use of Strong Gorgeous Arms and Hands to compliment your movements.
Beginners are welcomed, although students should already understand the basics bellydance.
Alina is the proud owner and director of Lotus Dance Studio in Pembroke Pines and the leader of Shri~Shambhala Tribe and the Lotus Dancers, two popular South Florida Tribal Troupes.
Alina has studied with Carolena Nericcio of Fat Chance BellyDance, Paulette Reese-Denis of Gypsy Caravan, Kajira Djoumana of Blacksheep Bellydance and many more masters ranging from Oriental to Tribal and Tribal Fusion. Alina is sharing her own interpretation of all who have beautifully influenced her and her dance along with her strong North African influences.
Notes will be provided.
