JILL PARKER is an international, award winning instructor, choreographer and director. Jill is the "Mama of the modern tribal fusion bellydance movement", an original member of Fat Chance Belly Dance, director of The San Francisco Foxglove Sweethearts, Ultra Gypsy, Djun Djun, and a frequent collaborator with Theater Flamenco. With 20 years of experience, she has trained many top dancers in the genre. Jill's big heart and deep love for this form shine through in her inspiring classes and intoxicating performances. She is an exceptional teacher with a knack for demystifying this sensuous dance making its techniques accessible to new dancers, while offering tremendous insight for refinement and breakthrough to advanced dancers. She has an amazing wealth of knowledge, is a warm teacher, has a very giving nature, and an easy to understand approach. Teacher recommendations

Hello Everyone,
I am a Belly Dance instructor in Nova Scotia, Canada. One of my students is about to visit the Fort Lauderdale/Pompano Beach area for the winter. She would like to continue taking dance classes. She will have had a total of 10 weeks of class experience when she comes. Can anyone recommend who they think the strongest teachers in that area are? You can also message me privately if you prefer. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Please also tell me why you recommend who you do.

Yes, we are doing it again!! This time, I would like to invite any and all Bellydancers to bring your bellydance or other yard sale items to sell or swap. Please PM or email me if you are interested in being a seller.

When?: September 12th (Saturday) – 9:00am to 12:00pm

Where?: My yard – 119 N Alderwood St, Winter Springs, FL 32708

What?: Unused or gently used Belly Dance Items in a variety of sizes and styles (Harem pants, hip scarves, skirts, tops, bra & belt sets and more!!) Additional items will also be for sale – Bunk beds, dressers, washer/dryer, home items, clothing (womens and girls sizes) and much more.

Please note, all items are the responsibility of the seller (if you leave it with me, I’m keeping the $$ - - muahahaha). Table space is limited – please bring folding tables, clothing racks or anything else that will help you display your items.

I will open up my home for you to try on before you buy. Lemonade refreshments will be brought to you by the two prettiest girls in Central Florida…(of course, that’s just my opinion :-) Please feel free to bring a drum, zills or music and we can dance to pass the time (or just cause a big ruckus to draw in more buyers...tehe!)

Celebrating the Divine Feminine: A Prenatal Workshop

Tribal bellydance celebrates the beauty of a womanly body, and encourages community and support amongst women.

Students will learn movements that will assist in loosening the hips as well as movements to help take stress off the back and the body, commonly occuring during pregnancy. Techniques to tone and tighten muscles will also be explored.

Meeting up in early April -- Videography for your Hafla, Show or Festival

Hi all -- for those who don't know me, I'm a life journalist, or more relevantly here, an event videographer with background and focus on bellydance performance (my wife used to bellydance and many of my close friends helped me understand the art of dancing with spirit). This past year I've recorded over 1000 dancers (probably over 2000) between Rakkasah and Tribal Fest alone... I love what I do, am thankful for the art, and always honored to be able to share the retelling of performances with and for all the amazing people I meet along the way.... (I realize that might sound "fluffy" to y'all... but I mean it... really!)

I like to think "outside the box" and whenever possible give the best possible quality within budget constraints (audio quality, as well as visual production value).

I'm writing because I'll be in South Florida and Orlando between April 7 and 12th, and if anyone on this Tribe would be interested in meeting up to discuss videography for a festival, stage performance or larger-scale Hafla you might have planned (or any other DVD or videography interests), I'd love to find the time to connect.

If anyone is interested, please do PM me... or if you have general questions others might be interested in, please do share them here as well.

Here are the class descriptions:
Description of Adult Bellydance Classes:
Adult bellydance classes are intended for women ages highschool and above. The classes are 45 minutes long with an optional ten minute "choreography class" afterwards. Our classes incorporate bellydance technique, cardio, muscle toning, and stretching for a total body workout. We cover elements from bellydance, jazz dance, ballet, yoga, pilates, and kickboxing. Everyone will have the opportunity to perform together as a group at a local charity event after 3-6 months of learning. Bellydance classes help women lose weight, make friends, learn to be graceful, and tighten their stomach and hips.

Description of Dance Cardio for Women Classes:
The Choreography classes are intended for ages 10 and above. It is preferred that students enrolling in this class have some dance experience. This class is a 50 minute long cardio dance class with elements of both jazz and hip hop movements. Inspired by today's entertainment artists, fun routines will get your heart pumping and body moving for a fun full body workout!

This weekend Firestorm is performing at the Creeks art and Music festival in veterans park. It starts at 7am and goes til 10pm. Admission is 5 dollars. We do this twice a year and everytime is for a different charity. This time is for battered women and children and we are doing a toys for tots benefit as well. I'm really hurt by this....

So i went to church the other day with my father and step mom. i was talking to a member of my church and mentioned I had started bellydancing since we last talked almost a year ago. She told me that exposing my skin and dancing like that was as bad as premarital sex and that i should be ashamed. I've never been so hurt in my life! Why would something that is beautiful and makes me confident and proud be considered shameful and trashy!? She mentioned it to the residing priest and suddenly his lecture/sermon was no longer about forgiveness and friendship but instead on sins of the flesh and temptation. I feel really upset about this. I know dancing isn't wrong and i know i'm not a horrible person for it. How can i make others see that? its causing a real problem with me and my family as well. They have the same mind set as the church. HELP!

She and I were in a troupe together on the island of Crete in '79. Before that she spent years in Turkey. She was also a flamenco dancer.

This friday night at sahara cafe!!!

My entire tribe Firestom and hopefully others will be going up to sahara cafe on beach blvd around 10pm. We're hoping to get a bunch of dancers that are local up there to see if we can maybe do a monthly or bi weekly thing here in town. Our goal is to get everyone together and really build a scene for it here in jacksonville. I know there are tons of us out there but we miss events and theres no one place to meet. It'd just be nice to meet other dancers and such.

This is a hand made costume. Both bra and belt are lined. The bra will fit a 34 C. The bra is very sturdy will hold it's shape well.
This costume will work great for new students, hobbyist, class recitals, parties photos and performances.
This is an original one of a kind costume. May see photos in my pics on page 1.

The bra will fit a 34 C. The bra cups are covered in a pink colored fabric with pink bugle beads sewn into the fabric. The bra is trimmed in a gold sequin gimp trim. The bra has beaded fringe made from pink seed beads that hangs about 4 3/4 inches long in groups of three .The neck straps are about 34 inches long and tie in a criss cross manner with D rings. The side panels are covered in a pink color velvet fabric(as well as the neck straps I would like to add) The side panels have D rings attach to the ends to add closure for the bra. The is bra is lined and very sturdy will hold it's shape.

The belt is cover in the same pink beaded fabric and gold trim as the bra cups. . The belt is one piece and is a tie front as if it were a hip sash . (has a bit more weight to it than a hip sash) The belt has an elastic casing in the back that can be gather to help with a better fit around the hips for a dancer with curves. The belt is 35 inches long. The belt will fit a small to medium . the belt can be sized down before I send it if you would like it smaller. The fringe is made from pink colored seed beads like on the bra and is about 5 3/4 inches long. This is a nice set sparkles well in light and good movement with the fringe Email with any questions and more photos. Creek music and art festival come see Firestorm!!

This saturday at veterans memorial park in fruitcove fl. Its an all day free outdoor event. There will be tons of artists and performing artists. we'll not only be performing twice (10:40 am and 6pm) but selling bellydance equipment and accessories made by hand. I'm currently making 50 medallions like the ones on my belt and hair sticks, belts, bras, hair falls and jewelry. The songs we're performing to are Kitten Pig/spitfire/snakecharmer/inertia creeps/avarice. Let me know if you're interested in coming. I'd love to hear some zahareets in the audience and to meet more dancers. We're really trying to meet more dancers, its so lonely not knowing any one. *sad face*

What is Bollywood? This dance form finds its routes in the seven classical dances of India, and over the generations, Bollywood has diverged and embodies a coalescence of various dances worldwide. This is a store on ebay for Buyer BE WEAR
I was bidding on a lot of 6 skirts in which I was winning with a wonderful price so I thought. After the bidding got to $100, the seller put a BUY NOW price in the site so anyone that was bidding and wanted the lot of 6 for $89.00 could purchase it cheaper but the highest bidder was locked into paying the higher price. I paid ASAP and contacted the seller - ask if he would not make up the difference with sending extra wraps - just told me "TO BAD not he fault the bidding got so high"
So I left them a natural comment - and explain the change in auction after price was over $100. In return they give me a negative comment and misleading information my comments. I contacting him asking why the negative when all I did was be a great buyer by over paying within 10 min of the auction ending and only asking for him to balance the wrong doing on his part. Again "TOO BAD" "YOUR FAULT"
My reply...I will take my business and many other with me. HAVE A NICE DAY!

So with all that said - BUYERS BEWEAR....please please please....from one Tribal Goddess to another..PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SALER. There are many other seller on ebay - this guy does not deserve the belly dancer dollars!

Some highlights include: We have added a Specialty Class room to focus on our
regions specifics dancers needs - including classes specifically geared toward
advanced and professional dancers, prop classes and specialty topics. These
classes are limited to only 15 participants, space is limited, so register early to
reserve your spot.

We have also changed our location to Athens, GA to ease our attendees' experience.
The new location is at the Athens Classic Center, with easy access to parking, food,
hotels and all SFF 2008 events.

This year we have increased our instructors with many options gear specifically to
tribal and cabaret attendees. Expect a weekend packed with classes, shopping, great
shows and a ton of fun!

Drum workshop: 1-3pm
Break 3-3:30pm

Workshop Descriptions:
Part 1: Drumming for Dancers
Basic technique will be covered as necessary to accomodate novice drummers. More advanced techniques will be demonstrated for intermediate/advanced drummers. Following the warm-up will be a call and response excercise using a selection of common rhythms that can be drilled with variations suitable to the level of each drummer. Putting the rhythms together will introduce concepts of transitions and endings. Drummer/Dancer etiquette, communication, counting cycles, ideas for accompanying solists, troupes, and/or ATS dancers will be discussed. If time allows we will also discuss the stucture for a drum solo for the dancer. Handouts will be provided and instuctional cds available for purchase. Doumbeks are prefered but frame drums and zills are also welcome. Drummers are also encouraged to take Part 2: Dancing for Drummers to put to practice what they have just learned!

Part 2: Dancing for Drummers
The purpose of this workshop is to listen and dance to the drum. Having knowledge of rhythm and rhythmic structure will enable dancers to define the dance they create whether as a soloist, with a troupe, using choreography or improvisation. In addition to listening and identifyying the most common rhythms, points covered will include communication with the drummer, counting cycles, knowing where the "one" is, hearing the accents and transitions, rhythm vs. melody and playing zills. An excercise for all participants will include choosing two rhythms randomly then communicate with the drummer and improvise or choreograph a short dance. Although the workshop will cater to all levels a basic knowledge of the dance is assumed. Participants are encouraged to bring zills. Handouts will be provided.
